Self-assembling holographic board box — premium packaging with a mirror-silver finish

This self-assembling box, 355×150×65 mm, is made from 320 gsm holographic board with a PE polymer coating. The surface looks like mirrored silver and shifts through rainbow highlights as the viewing angle changes — the effect comes from the structure of the film itself rather than from ink, so it does not fade over time or rub off in handling.

The defining feature of this order is the two-ply construction of the material. The client needed packaging that was “in silver” on every side, so two sheets of holographic board were laminated together with their uncoated faces inward. The result is a composite of roughly 640 gsm with holographic surfaces on both outer sides. Custom cardboard packaging built this way looks equally striking closed and open: inside, the customer meets the same silver rather than the plain white reverse of the board. The double ply also gives the box the rigidity that an elongated, low-walled format needs.

The structure is self-assembling: the box ships flat and is folded into shape using tuck flaps and locking tabs, with no glue involved. Flat blanks are easy to store and transport, and assembly requires neither equipment nor special skills. For this order a custom die-line was developed in a 625×496 mm flat format, and a dedicated cutting die was produced to match its contour. Where a standard shape suits the client, however, no new tooling is needed at all: the in-house library holds over 3000 ready cutting dies, and choosing an existing construction noticeably shortens both lead time and cost.

The brand elements are applied by single-colour screen printing in white. Screen printing is the optimal method for holographic and metallised substrates: the ink layer is dense and opaque, so the artwork reads clearly against a reflective, light-catching background.

Holographic board is one of the most expressive ways to make packaging feel premium without multi-stage decoration. A metallised, shifting surface works for the product both on the shelf and at the moment it is handed over: a box like this is perceived as part of the gift itself. For brands this is a direct lever on perceived product value — the spend on material and finish returns through how the customer reads the product.
