Joujou gift bag: custom cardboard packaging with gold foil stamping

This handbag-shaped gift bag is an example of premium cardboard packaging that does the job of gift wrapping on its own. The construction mimics a miniature handbag: a trapezoid body with triangular side panels, a shaped closing flap with a wavy edge, and a detachable ribbon handle. Packaging like this needs no additional wrapping or decoration — the product inside already looks like a gift.

The piece consists of two elements: the bag body and the handle. The flap closes by tucking its tongue into a slot on the front panel — no glue and no magnetic closures — while a shaped heart tag with the brand logo peeks out from underneath. The handle threads through slots in the flap to form a carrying loop; it is printed in four design variants, so the same bag looks different across the series.

The bag is made of bleached SBS cellulose board with a density of 300 gsm — a material with a smooth white surface that holds its shape, supports the weight of the contents and provides a quality base for printing and finishing.

The bag is offset printed on both sides: the outside carries the brand graphics, while the inside reveals a narrative illustration and product information the customer discovers on opening the bag. In addition to CMYK process inks, the job uses spot colours Pantone 1655 C and Pantone 531 C for exact reproduction of the brand palette, as well as bronze ink — used to print the logo and the leopard pattern on the bottom and side panels.

The key finishing element is gold foil stamping: two logos on the bag body and full-length decoration of the handles — logo and leopard pattern. The mirror-like shine of the foil, combined with double-sided matte lamination that gives a soft, glare-free velvety surface, creates the bag’s distinctive premium look. The lamination also protects the print from abrasion and moisture and strengthens the construction — an essential requirement for a bag carried by its handle.

The construction is fully custom: the cutting dies for the body and the handle, as well as the stamping dies for the foil, were developed specifically for this project. At the same time, clients who need standard packaging can choose from Pergament’s library of over 3,000 ready-made cutting dies — using an existing construction eliminates tooling costs.

Order type — packaging. The full production cycle was carried out at the Pergament printing house in Chișinău, Moldova: prepress, offset printing with Pantone and bronze inks, double-sided matte lamination, gold foil stamping, design and manufacture of custom die-cutting tooling, and die cutting. Custom cardboard packaging of this level of complexity — gift bags, boxes with shaped flaps, foil-stamped products — is produced to each brand’s requirements and manufactured in volume with consistent quality.
