March 8 Advent Calendar: Gift Box with 12 Mini Boxes, Ribbon and Soft-Touch Lamination
An advent calendar is a gift packaging format in which the present is divided into a series of small discoveries: numbered mini boxes sit inside the main box, and the recipient opens them one by one. The format comes from the Christmas tradition but works perfectly for any holiday — in this case, the Pergament printing house in Chisinau produced an advent calendar for March 8: a keepsake-style main box of 300×240×51 mm and twelve mini boxes numbered 1 to 12, intended for product samples.
The packaging is a multi-part construction of thirteen elements. The main box has a hinged lid and is decorated with a white satin ribbon tied in a bow: such a box is a gift in itself and needs no additional wrapping. Inside, twelve mini boxes are arranged in two rows — all of the same construction and size, but with twelve different designs. A single die-cutting form for all mini boxes is a rational solution that reduces tooling costs without sacrificing design variety. The Pergament library holds over 3,000 ready-made cutting dies: for many projects a suitable construction already exists, and when needed a die is made individually for the project.
The materials are chosen according to the function of each element. The main box is made of 300 g/m² one-side coated board, which holds the shape of a large item and supports the weight of the contents. The mini boxes are made of 250 g/m² GC1 cellulose board with a coated face for high-quality full-colour printing.
Printing is offset, in the CMYK colour model. The main box is printed on both sides: the floral pattern continues on the inner surface, so when the lid is opened the recipient sees a complete design with a greeting rather than white board — an important detail for gift packaging, where the moment of opening is the main impression. The mini boxes are printed on the face side and coated with full gloss offset varnish, which seals the ink and adds vibrancy.
The outer surface of the main box is laminated with transparent soft-touch (touch cover) film. This matte lamination has a velvety tactile effect: the box is pleasant to hold, the surface does not glare and is protected from scratches and moisture. For premium gift packaging, tactile finishing plays the same role as design — it creates a sense of value before the box is even opened.
All elements are glued on an automatic folder-gluer line — the process is automated, ensuring consistent assembly quality across the entire print run.
