Self-assembling dessert box 170×135×95 mm: confectionery packaging with a barrier coating
The self-assembling box with a hinged lid is one of the most popular solutions in confectionery packaging. This 170×135×95 mm box is made from a single one-piece blank: the lid, body, and tuck-in flap are cut from one sheet of cardboard, so the box folds into shape in seconds and requires no glue or tools at the point of sale. Until needed, the packaging is stored flat, taking up minimal space.
The box is made of GC1 solid bleached coated cardboard with a density of 265 g/m² and a PE barrier coating. The polyethylene layer protects the board from moisture and grease — a must-have for packaging pastries, cakes, and other cream-based confectionery. The rigid cardboard holds its shape, supports the weight of the dessert, and keeps the packaging looking neat all the way from the shop display to the customer’s table.
The box is offset printed in three colours on the outside (3+0): the inner side, which comes into contact with the product, remains unprinted. A glossy water-based dispersion varnish is applied over the print — a food-safe coating that protects the ink from scuffing and gives the brand graphics richer colour and a subtle sheen. For branded confectionery packaging, this finish is a cost-effective way to look premium without significantly increasing the price of the print run.
After printing and varnishing, the blanks are die-cut and then glued on an automatic folder-gluer line using hot-melt adhesive. Automated gluing guarantees consistent geometry and a strong seam on every unit — each box folds just as easily and reliably holds its shape.
The structural design was selected from the printing house’s library of over 3,000 ready-made cutting dies, which makes it possible to launch custom cardboard packaging production without spending time and money on new tooling. If standard formats don’t fit, an individual structural design is developed for the specific product.
Cardboard packaging for confectionery is manufactured in Chișinău, Moldova, at a full-cycle in-house production facility: prepress, offset printing, varnishing, die-cutting, and automated gluing are all carried out on one site, ensuring quality control and predictable lead times for clients across Moldova.
